This contest commissioned from 99Designs was to create a logo for a company called Retromod, who are developing a new series of virtual instruments. Each instrument they create will be themed on a classic hardware synthesiser product line such as Moog, Clavia and Juno. I took inspiration from their aims and used classic, retro themes and created my logo in a modern and fresh style.
I enjoyed using a retro inspired colour theme for this, experimenting with bright but toned down colours, that I seen in the themes and colours from the below images.
Their name ‘Retromod’ came from the automotive industry where car enthusiasts take classics and rather than just restore them, they take out all the old bad stuff and replace with modern tech (new engines, chassis, suspension etc but keeping the classic body shape). Their ethos is to do the same with classic hardware synthesisers – taking inspiration from the originals and adding a modern twist to add capabilities never available before.
