The world’s hottest salsa needed an equally hot design concept. the texture and colour of red ink always sets off on the right foot, conveying a visual heat and rough handmade feel that this project needed. Inspired by the name ‘Day of the Dead’, I looked into the images that represent the celebration in Mexico, and found a lot of different coloured decorative skulls that would suit a hot red theme.
I liked the rough effect that the red ink texture gave through the opacity mask in Adobe illustrator. It gave the skull a distorted edge and printed look, as apposed to a solid colour.
The reversed out skull on ink also looked great, and could be used for marketing campaigns or as an alternative packaging design.
For the logo itself I chose a all-caps typeface that is quite condensed to work alongside the skull design that I came up with previously. I also applied the red ink texture effect to the lettering.
Finally I added my design onto a glass jar mock up in Adobe Photoshop, to show the application of my design onto product packaging.
